ProsourceFit Multipurpose Olympic Barbell Review

The do-everything bar for a lifter who refuses to specialize: what a 44 lb, 28mm phosphate shaft with a knurl-free center gets you, and the two specs it doesn't publish that you should factor in.

The ProsourceFit multipurpose bar is our best all-rounder pick in the best Olympic barbellroundup, and this page is the long version of why. As with every review on Knurl Knock, we haven’t tested this bar in a lab — we don’t run one. What we’ve done is read the published specification and weigh it against every bar in its price band, then lay out exactly who the numbers suit.

The short version: this is the bar you buy when you do a genuine mix of everything and want one shaft that never gets in the way. A 28mm shaft, a knurl-free centerand sleeves spun for cleans make it a comfortable daily driver. What it doesn’t do is win a spec sheet — 160,000 PSI is mid-pack, there is no published weight-capacity rating, and it carries no IPF or Olympic ring marks. That is the honest trade at this price.

What we like

  • 28mm shaft with a knurl-free center stays comfortable across squats, presses and cleans
  • Phosphate shaft grips more like bare steel than a slick chrome finish
  • The same listing sells a matching 25mm, 33 lb women's bar — a two-bar gym stays consistent

Trade-offs

  • 160,000 PSI tensile is mid-pack — the specialist bars here publish more
  • No published weight-capacity rating and no IPF or Olympic ring marks
  • Phosphate needs a light oiling to stay rust-free; chrome doesn't

The full review

The shaft: 28mm, and a phosphate finish you can feel

The men’s bar runs a 28mm shaft at 44 lb over 86.6 inches— standard full-length Olympic geometry. 28mm sits at the livelier end of the useful range: a little more give than a 29mm power bar, which is what you want if you clean, press and squat in the same session rather than grinding maximal singles. Our shaft diameter guide covers how the half-millimetres map to feel.

The less common spec is the finish. ProsourceFit publishes a phosphate-coated shaft with chrome sleeves, and phosphate feels different in the hand from the hard chrome most bars in this band use. It is a duller, more tactile surface that reads closer to bare steel, so the knurl bites without as much chalk. The cost is upkeep: phosphate is a porous conversion coating that wants an occasional light wipe of oil, where chrome will sit in a humid garage untouched. Our barbell finishes guide and rust prevention guide cover the routine.

No center knurl: what it buys and what it costs

The listing is explicit that the shaft carries a standard medium diamond knurl with a smooth, knurl-free center. That one choice does more for a mixed-training bar than any other spec here. Nothing grates your neck on a high-bar squat, nothing chews your collarbone in the front rack, and nothing shreds your shirt on high-rep cleans. If your training is varied, the missing center knurl is a feature, not an omission.

The flip side is real. Under a genuinely maximal back squat, the center knurl is what stops the bar creeping down your back. If a competition squat is the point of your training, read our center knurl guideand buy accordingly — this is not the bar for that job.

The sleeves: bumper-ready, with enough spin to clean on

ProsourceFit specifies chrome sleeves sized for standard 2-inch platesand says the spin is set for “exercises like cleans and snatches.” That is the right ambition for a do-everything bar: enough rotation that the plates keep turning while your wrists finish a clean, without paying for a bearing bar. What ProsourceFit does notpublish is the rotation mechanism — there is no bushing or bearing spec on the listing, so we won’t claim one. If free-spinning sleeves are the whole point of your training, our Synergee Games review covers a bar that states its bearings, and the bushing vs bearing guide lays out the trade-off.

160,000 PSI: honestly mid-pack

The headline number on the listing is 160,000 PSI tensile strength. That is a real published figure — more than most unbranded import bars disclose at all — but it sits below the bars it shares a roundup with, and ProsourceFit publishes no explicit weight-capacity rating to go with it. Our tensile strength guide and weight capacity guideexplain what those numbers do and don’t tell you: for a lifter loading a few hundred pounds it is a non-issue, and for a lifter loading far more, a bar that states a capacity is the safer purchase.

A matching women’s bar on the same listing

The quieter reason we rate it: the same listing sells a 33 lb, 25mm, 79-inch women’s baralongside the 44 lb men’s version. For a two-person home gym that is genuinely useful — both lifters get the correct bar geometry with the same knurl, the same finish and the same sleeve fit, so one rack and one set of bumper plates serve both. Our women’s vs men’s bar guide covers why the 25mm shaft matters, and matched pairs bought from separate listings rarely line up this cleanly.

Who should buy it — and who shouldn’t

Buy it ifyour training is genuinely mixed and you would rather have a bar that’s comfortable everywhere than one that’s exceptional in a single lift. The knurl-free center and the 28mm shaft make it an easy daily driver, and it pairs cleanly with a power rack and a set of plates. Our multipurpose barbell guide covers the category in general.

Look elsewhere ifyou fall at either extreme. If you only squat, bench and deadlift heavy, you want a 29mm shaft, an aggressive knurl and a center knurl — our powerlifting roundup is the right page. If you want the most published spec per dollar, the Titan Performance Seriesstates a capacity, a bushing type and a knurl grade for less money. And if you’re on the tightest budget, the value bars in our budget roundup cost less again.

Common questions

Is the ProsourceFit multipurpose bar a good all-around barbell?

Yes — it's our best all-rounder pick. The 28mm shaft and the smooth, knurl-free center keep it comfortable across squats, presses, pulls and cleans, and the sleeves are sized and spun for standard bumper plates. It won't out-spec a specialist bar, but for a lifter who does a bit of everything it's an easy daily driver.

What happened to the REP Fitness Delta bar you used to recommend?

It is no longer sold on Amazon. REP's Amazon barbell listing — the Delta, Teton and Badlands bars — now shows as currently unavailable with no price, so we retired it as our all-rounder pick and removed the buy link. Our old Delta review stays up for the record, and the ProsourceFit is what we'd buy in its place today. REP still sells the Delta direct from its own site if you want that exact bar.

Does the ProsourceFit bar have a center knurl?

No. ProsourceFit specifies a medium diamond knurl with a smooth, knurl-free center. That's kinder on your neck and collarbone across squats, front-rack work and high-rep cleans, but it means the bar can creep down your back under a genuinely maximal squat — which is exactly why dedicated power bars keep the center knurl.

Is 160,000 PSI enough tensile strength?

For almost every home-gym lifter, yes. Tensile strength describes how much stress the steel takes before it fails, and 160,000 PSI is a mid-pack published figure — below the specialist bars in our roundups, above what most import bars disclose at all. ProsourceFit doesn't publish a weight-capacity rating alongside it, so if you want a stated capacity number, buy a bar that gives you one.

Is there a women's version of this bar?

Yes — the same listing sells a 33 lb, 25mm, 79-inch women's bar next to the 44 lb, 28mm, 86.6-inch men's bar. Both share the knurl pattern, the phosphate-and-chrome finish and the 2-inch sleeve fit, which makes them an unusually clean matched pair for a two-person home gym.

One bar for everything?

If you refuse to specialize, a comfortable 28mm shaft with no center knurl is the sane default. If you lean hard toward the powerlifts or the Olympic lifts, our roundups point you to a better-fitting bar.
